A Happy Birthday Celebration!

We celebrated Lauren's 7th birthday with four of her friends from school. They arrived in the afternoon and played before we left to go to the mall for Lauren and Kaylor's first (and hopefully only!) ears piercing. Then we ate at Bertucci's, a great pizza place in the mall as well. As you'll see, Lauren chose a "horse" theme and I have to say I was a little impressed by how it all turned out! Can't believe she's turning 7!!!

Kaylor got clear earrings.

Lauren got to pick out a pair of "dangly" earrings for after the allotted time of keeping in the studs.

Our Halloween Weekend NorEaster

Scroll down to the other picture of this branch... and you'll see where it fell originally. The winds on Sunday pulled it down further. Lucky it didn't go through our bathroom window! Lauren was quite startled to go into the bathroom and see branches!
Neighbor's house across the street with limbs on their roof. I think their backyard and our other neighbor's backyards with a large stretch of woods was littered with huge branches. We heard chain saws going all day!
Branches that fell on our neighbor's fence (which hasn't been fixed since our tree fell on their fence and house over a year ago!)
Tree branch on our roof... which fell down further on Sunday due to the wind gusts. I think I had heard that one fall in the middle of the night because I woke up after hearing something and decided to move Lauren from her bed upstairs (right under that tree!) to the couch... you know, playing it safe!

We were among millions affected by the NorEaster that hit us Halloween Weekend. We had power restored on Tue night. Thankfully, we were able to stay with a dear friend who is our "family" out here. She was quite saddened to see us go (well, maybe more so the girls?!!). After one night (Sunday night) of "roughing" it, we decided it wasn't worth it! I've already missed three days of school and the hopes is we'll return on Thursday (tomorrow). Josh and the girls still had school. (NCA was in the 10% that still had power on in Nashua!) Today, I am doing laundry and going grocery shopping. We lost everything in our fridge and freezer! UGH (and all the unopened cartons and food I had gotten on Saturday wasted!!!). Phew- so far we've been back in NH for the three largest power outages in state record (2008 ice storm (we never lost power as we lived in the apartment near the hospital); 2010 wind storm- which my father was here for (we lost power for only maybe 1/2 a day, mainly through the night hours; and now 2011 Halloween freak weekend NorEaster, which we finally impacted significantly!) Could it be us?!

Precursor for Halloween!

The girls' doctor's office holds a Halloween Flu clinic every year. Genius, isn't it? The girls got all dressed up a few minutes ago and went to the "haunted clinic". This is just a nice practice run for Halloween AND they got their flu shots!!! :)

Lots to catch up on!!

Kaylor turned 8 on May 7th! We had an all classmate birthday party outside and yes, I made her strawberry cake from scratch (perhaps I wouldn't have done so, but she is allergic to soy... and so many processed/boxed foods has soy). I have to say it was delicious and quite proud of myself! The sun shined all morning and right as the party ended, it clouded up and the rain came!
We celebrated Mother's Day with a drive over to the beach and up along the coast for a bit. Our favorite restaurant was mobbed, so we decided to drive back home and went out to eat that night at Cracker Barrel! Yum!
A Happy Mother's Day squeeze!
Grandma and Grandpa Wachter got to be chaperones for Kaylor's field trip to the New England Aquarium. I took a personal day off of work and drove some kids down and helped out as well. It was so much fun (minus my shoe breaking and having to walk with one shoe to the aquarium and then having to buy flipflops in the gift shop first thing!). Ah, the memories!

Kaylor highly recommends the touch tanks... the starfish and crab touch tank and then the stingray and hammerhead touch tank! VERY COOL!!

And... FINALLY!!!! I received my Master's Degree in Education with focus in Curriculum and Instruction on May 14! It was outdoors, a bit chilly waiting for it to start, but a wonderful ceremony overall! The girls got to stay at our friend's house so they didn't have to manage a 3 hour sit! We took the picture once we came back to pick them up after the ceremony.
