Happy Easter!! This picture of the girls was taken by Josh this evening while we enjoyed a pre-Easter dinner with my parents visiting from WI and Josh's parents. But notice the green hat? That's a St. Patrick's Day hat courtesy my parents (even though we're not Irish!). They are also proudly wearing their new Easter clothes from Grandma and Grandad Winans. Also notice Lauren's in "blue". Her favorite color... oh, wait... news flash MOM... old favorite color. Here's my conversation with her at the dinner table tonight: "Mom, I want a butterfly sleeping bag." "But, Lauren, you already have one... your care bear sleeping bag (which is blue, the whole reason she got one for Christmas)." "Moooom (in the duh, mom voice), I'm done with blue. It's NOT my favorite color anymore. It's pink, ok?" I just sat there and was, of course, dumbfounded I had somehow missed that her favorite color had changed!! Thankfully, she didn't appear dismayed that her new top and shorts were blue and not pink when she opened her gift!
Have a wonderful Easter and remember....it's NOT ABOUT THE BUNNIES... as Josh loves to keep saying. I'm cool with it, but I have so many fond childhood memories with our Easter baskets and celebrating Easter. Somehow the girls are not clicking so much with the whole "Jesus died and arose" deal. They've just got it down that at Christmas Jesus was born and that we celebrate his birthday (it's NOT about Santa Claus!!). Now a few months later he dies, yet lives?!! Their young minds are overwhelmed with it all, I'm sure. I just smile... cause they'll eventually be able to wrap their minds around it, and I pray that they will embrace it.
